Wireless Features Roadmap

AWC Algorithm Support

The AWC algorithm generates optimal wireless settings based on measurements taken by the APs. This feature currently runs on-premises in the AWC plugin.

In the future we may have the ability to run features in the customer's network rather than in the cloud. In the short-term we will need to run this in the cloud.

The algorithm needs to be adapted to run in the cloud environment. This would include:

  • Storing the data from the APs efficiently (there are different techniques for this in the cloud to reduce costs)
  • Optimizing the algorithm to run more efficiently

If we do not have the ability to run the AWC Algorithm, we will be limited to the basic management the Embedded Wireless Controller (EWC) provides. This can handle basic tasks like "if an AP goes down, increase the power of the other APs to compensate", but it is not as sophisticated as the AWC algorithm.

Managing groups of APs

The Embedded Wireless Controller (EWC) can manage up to 50 APs. If a customer has more than 50 APs, we will need to group them and use multiple EWCs to manage the network.

Grouping them correctly is important, so you do not have an AP trying to manage one that is too far away.
